In this new entry in our ‘Diamonds In The Rough’ category, we would like to introduce you to upcoming artist Giffy Pluggo and his brand new album titled Douda.
Rising artist Giffy Pluggo is back with a bold new project that blends street smarts, lyrical dexterity, and Chicago’s iconic culture. Douda, his highly anticipated new album, is a masterclass in storytelling and raw emotion, providing a unique snapshot of his life in the Windy City. Produced by the 15-year-old prodigy Myles, the son of Rick Hyde and nephew of Benny the Butcher, Douda is a raw reflection of the artist’s experiences, influences, and aspirations, all while capturing the duality of being a “gangsta” rapper with the potential for greater things, much like the character Douda from the popular TV series The Chi.
The project is a collaboration that brings together notable names in the game. Myles, whose musical upbringing runs deep through his famous family connections, offers the perfect soundscape for Pluggo’s gritty, yet aspirational lyrics. Rick Hyde, who is also Myles father, lends his production and gives an outstanding feature verse. Jae Skeese, signed to Conway’s Drumwork label, also adds his voice to the mix, showcasing his own lyrical prowess on the track “Casino Remix.”
Throughout the album, listeners will hear scenes from The Chi, cleverly woven into the tracks. This creative decision underscores the significance of Chicago in Pluggo’s identity and also highlights the internal conflict of being entrenched in a tough environment while striving for a higher purpose—similar to Douda, the mayor in the series. As Pluggo describes it, Douda is more than just an album; it’s an exploration of ambition, survival, and the ever-present tension between the streets and the boardroom.
The tracklist features a mix of introspective cuts and hard-hitting anthems, with standout tracks like “Roseland,” featuring C Bill$, and the reflective “How I Came Up,” with Dilla. The album’s second song, “Villain Origin Story,” sets the tone with its cinematic approach, chronicling the rise of a villain with a story you can’t help but watch unfold.
With Douda, Giffy Pluggo cements his place as an artist who is not only influenced by his environment but is also shaping it. His music is a reflection of the streets, ambition, and the drive to make it out—just like Douda. This album isn’t just a statement; it’s a legacy in the making.
