In this new entry in our ‘Diamonds In The Rough’ category, we want to introduce you to upcoming artist Pimpin Change and his brand new album titled Ground Up.
This fresh release from prolific rapper Pimpin Change is a remarkable 12 track album giving the audience a glimpse into the struggle & deep emotions that Pimpin Change wrestled with in the creation of the project.
Coming from a time of angst and an unwavering worry of losing it all, Ground Up is drenched in raw passion and emotion with a distinct sense of authenticity and realness. Tracks such as the album’s opener ‘Do It Like That,’ is an inspiring HipHop hit laying out Pimpin Change’s determination and commitment to his work with lines like ‘I’m changing what I’m doing cause I’m looking up,’ and, ‘I’m just looking to make my mark knowing I’m aiming hard.’ Whereas other songs on the album boast smooth R&B grooves reminiscent of the soulful sounds of the past like “Play Them Digits,” and “Pay To Play,” where Pimpin Change’s vocal performance is similar to that of a prime Ice Cube.
From start to finish, the album is inch perfect in its crisp production; deep-sub heavy kicks paired with powerful 808s, soulful synths & keyboards gracefully interwoven into the each panned ear & vocals prominent at the forefront of each track where they should be.
“It inspired me to look more deeper into myself and took me to a dark place in my life, but the only way out was to believe in myself more and more. What it taught me was to stand on your own work and believe what you learned and just go for it,” says Pimpin Change himself and the album stays true to its authentic roots – a masterpiece certain not to miss out on.
Ground Up is a classic hip-hop project with some banging beats and many soulful elements in it. Pimpin Change’s diverse flow never gets boring and he kills every song. We are seeing a bright future ahead for him.
