DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH: SK World – “Freedom”

In this new entry in our ‘Diamonds In The Rough’ category, we want to introduce you to upcoming duo SK World and their brand new single titled “Freedom”.

Tapping into their Nigerian heritage SK World returns with “Freedom”, a record inspired by the global movement of black people to end police brutality. Appropriately scheduled for release during Black history month, Freedom sonically pays homage to the great fela Kuti with the record consisting of rhythm guitars and brass sections commonly associated with the roots afrobeat legend. The record starts with the haunting vocals of Kev screaming “I’ve been thinking again how they got all my people in chains“, the pain of those lyrics evident in his delivery. Steff picks up the verse with rapid fire lyrics questioning the mentality of racism and discrimination. The record ends with the names of the fallen victims of police brutality in Nigeria been read out reminding the listener that the fight is only just beginning.
