With an instantly captivating groove accompanied by hard-hitting crisp percussion (courtesy of producers yago and noirheart), slayloverboy’s cleverly-titled new single “bring a knife if you want me to open up” sounds and feels like an immediate hit. But what really makes this song so compelling are the honest, straightforward lyrics that paint a vivid picture of exactly who slayloverboy is. Using a perfectly relevant sample of Motocross legend Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg’s voice to kick off his verse, slayloverboy’s slurred, emo-rap delivery sounds incredibly fresh. The whole song packs an irresistible urgency that teleports you to his world when you listen, as well as forcing you to hit repeat, repeatedly.

“Bring a knife if you want me to open up” is a complete revision of what I was doing back in 2017-2018 and it’s a great introduction to my sound this year. I’d love to try to bring emo rap back because honestly it should’ve never left.”
