In this new entry in our ‘Diamonds In The Rough’ category, we would like to introduce you to upcoming artist Synthonic a.k.a. Kieron Garrett and his brand new album titled Lampin’.
London-based musician Kieron Garrett is back with a groove-infused offering—Synthonic’s second album, Lampin’. A follow-up to his acclaimed 2018 debut, this new release solidifies Garrett’s unique fusion of funk, jazz, and instrumental mastery. Featuring some of the UK’s most esteemed musicians, Lampin’ promises to be an irresistible sonic journey for funk enthusiasts and music lovers alike.
A New Chapter in Funk
Synthonic, the brainchild of Garrett, emerged in 2018 as a fresh and innovative funk project. With a background in classical piano and tuba, Garrett’s musical foundation was built from the age of seven. His journey through orchestras, ensembles, and a degree in music performance at Kingston University eventually led him to jazz—forming the Kieron Garrett Quartet (KGQ), which featured legendary UK saxophonist Dave O’Higgins.
With performances at renowned venues like Ronnie Scott’s, 606 Club, and Pizza Express, Garrett honed his craft among the best. His compositions soon caught international attention, leading to singles like “I Hop” being signed to Supertunes (Big Mama’s House Records, Germany) and “You’ve Got Me Tied Up” joining the NightOwl Collective (USA).
The Sound of Lampin’
Staying true to Synthonic’s instrumental funk roots, Lampin’ boasts infectious grooves, dynamic brass sections, and a rhythmic pulse designed to move audiences. The album is an exploration of rhythmic interplay and melodic sophistication, blending jazz sensibilities with funk’s irresistible drive.
Garrett has assembled a stellar lineup of musicians for the album, including:
- Vasilis Xenopoulos – one of the UK’s most sought-after saxophonists.
- Jack Birchwood (Blackjack Horns) – a trumpeter whose contributions can be heard on countless pop records.
- Paul Jordanous – Rag & Bone Man’s renowned trumpeter.
- Mike Pratt – an exceptional bassist currently touring with Bill Bruford (Yes).
